BRB: Focus Timer

BRB: Focus Timer

A tiny but intentional Pomodoro timer designed to break the cycle of checking your phone during breaks. Instead of losing 40 minutes to Instagram, BRB gives you a light, engaging activity that feels like a real break without the mental context switch.

Design & Aesthetic
The entire interface is built around a CRT-inspired visual style chunky pixels, glowing text, analog buttons, and that nostalgic early-computer feel. While not the most accessible choice, it creates a playful, nostalgic environment that makes the timer feel less like a productivity tool and more like a small game.

Built With
Claude code (JavaScript, HTML, Tailwind CSS). Deployed on Vercel.

Sometimes the best ideas arrive when we stop chasing them and simply sit with the view.

About

The person behind the pixels

I'm Nivetha, a UI/UX designer with an architecture background. I bring systems thinking and spatial reasoning to design complex digital experiences. My journey started with graphic design work for NGOs that's where I discovered my real passion for visual storytelling and user-centered thinking. Over the past years, I've focused on designing enterprise platforms and multi-user systems, collaborating with teams and clients to solve meaningful design problems.

Outside of work, you'll usually find me reading a book, solving a puzzle, or diving into something new. I enjoy working with people, staying organized, and bringing creativity into everything I do. Always curious, always learning ready to build something meaningful together.

My Stacks

Problem First, Solution Later

I spend time understanding what's actually broken. Is it a user pain point? A business bottleneck? A workflow that doesn't make sense? I don't jump to design until I know what I'm solving for.

Know Who I'm Designing For

Not all users are the same. In enterprise platforms, I map out exactly who uses what their goals, frustrations, constraints. One interface can't work for everyone, so I design for specific users doing specific jobs.

Align Design with Business

I understand what the company needs to achieve, what users need to accomplish, and find where those things overlap. That's where good design lives.

Map Everything Out First

Before any UI, I visualize the entire flow. How do users move through the system? What decisions do they make? Where do things break? Wireframes and flow diagrams tell me if the solution actually works before I design a single screen.

Name the Constraints

Every project has real limitations like time, technology, budget, competing user needs. I list them upfront. Constraints actually force better thinking. They're not problems to hide; they're part of the brief.

Explore Before I Finalize

I test multiple approaches. Show rough ideas . See what works, what doesn't. Only after I'm confident in the direction do I invest in high-fidelity UI. Moving fast early means fewer wrong turns later.
